Small Brainy Delight..

Hi friends..
same rules.... hints for start questions in the comments block and ans to be mailed at abhibinani@gmail.com.

Happy Quiz time :)

*1..

The roots of "X" as a measurement standard can be traced back to Carl Frederick Gauss (1777-1855) who introduced the concept of the normal curve. X has evolved a lot over time.

As Geoff Tennant describes in his book "X: SPC and TQM in Manufacturing and Services": "X is many things, and it would perhaps be easier to list all the things that X quality is not. X can be seen as: a vision; a philosophy; a symbol; a metric; a goal; a methodology." We couldn't agree more.

What are we talking abt..... X = ??

2..

Today the "X International Inc." is the product of a merger between "Y" and "X" Inc. which took place in 1999. Although Y was twice the size of X, the combined company chose the name "X" because of its superior brand recognition.

However, the corporate headquarters were consolidated to Y's headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey rather than X's former headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

X maintains a very active community involvement program called "Hometown Solutions". Program initiatives include matching employee volunteer involvement with charitable donations, encouraging study of maths and science, re-building after hurricane Katrina and a long-standing partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children called "Got2bSafe".

What are X and Y ...... ?? (1 pt for each.... )

*3..

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, "S" is the second-most popular song in the English language, following "Happy Birthday to You" and followed by "Auld Lang Syne."

"S" is a British and American song which is sung to congratulate a person on a significant event, such as a retirement. The melody originates from that of the French song "Marlbrough s'en va-t-en guerre."

Please sing this song "S" .... ??

4.. A sitter is here.... ;)

"X Y" bills itself as the third largest confectionery manufacturer in the world after Cadbury and Wrigley. It employs 14,000 people via 30 subsidiary companies and distributes its products in over 130 countries.

It was formed by the 2001 merger of "X" of Italy with "Y" of the Netherlands, having its corporate headquarters in Lainate, Italy and in Breda, Netherlands.

What is X and Y .... ?? ( 1 point for each..)

Another set of random questions.....
for hints in the star question, pls check the comments block and DO NOT leave ans over therr.... mail ans to abhibinani@gmail.com and let the comments block be for comments only !!

1.... starting with a sitter as usual......
who said illustrating what.......??

"The navel is naturally placed in the center of the human body, and, if in a man lying with his face upward, and his hands and feet extended, from his navel as the centre, a circle be described, it will touch his fingers and toes. It is not alone by a circle, that the human body is thus circumscribed, as may be seen by placing it within a square. For measuring from the feet to the crown of the head, and then across the arms fully extended, we find the latter measure equal to the former; so that lines at right angles to each other, enclosing the figure, will form a square."

2 * ....

The origin of X has been debated for years. Printed likenesses can be traced back to the 19th century, such as the The Yellow Kid character from Richard F. Outcault's strip, Hogan's Alley.

since his debut in Y
X has appeared in a slew of guises, including Geroger Washington, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Barack Obama, Bruce Springsteen, Kurt Cobain, Bart Simpson, Michael Jackson, George Bush and many more.... Considering X's ubiquity as a cover boy, it is perhaps ironic that the single highest-selling issue of Y depicted only his feet.

He was also briefly known as Mel Haney, When in one of the issue Mel Haney was also described as his name.

A female version of X, named Moxie Cowznofski and occasionally described in editorial text as X's "girlfriend," appeared briefly during the late 1950s.

Identify X and Y....

3 * ....

This song "S" is the fifth and final single by American singer-songwriter "Y" from Y's third studio album, True Blue, and it was released on February 25, 1987 by Sire Records.

S was written by Patrick Leonard and Bruce Gaitsch, and originally intended for Michael Jackson for his Bad album, who, according to Gaitsch, turned it down.

Y accepted it in Jackson's place, and wrote the song's lyrics, earning a co-writing credit. Lyrically, the song speaks of the simplicity and authenticity of "boy-meets-girl love".

Internationally, "S" was a bonafide worldwide hit which reached number one in the UK, France and Germany....

Identify S and Y.......

4 .... (sitter again..... )

The # effect is the ability of any activity to which people devote sufficient time and attention to begin to dominate their thoughts, mental images, and dreams. The name has been derived from a game.

The game "#" is originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov in June 1985, while working for the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science of the USSR in Moscow.

The core X technology has two qualities that give it great adaptability.

One is its ability to translate documents into any format, not just XML. If tomorrow another technology comes along that is an improvement on XML, the X technology can be used to convert documents to that technology without much change in its defining features. (So, for those wondering if the ‘Ex’ in the company’s name refers to XML, it doesn’t.)

The other feature is its language independence. If this technology is to be

successful across the globe, it has to be able to translate documents that

are in languages other than English….

Given that the X solution is the only one of its kind at the moment, it seems like Tata Infotech has a winner here.

X’s relationship with Tata Infotech is a very important one, because it gives us greater credibility with large customers who are not prepared to deal with organisations that may not be there tomorrow...... Below is the logo of X

Nicknamed by his colleagues in tata group as the "phantom of bombay house" X, despite being one of the most successful business man in india, is known for his media shyness and rarely appears in public....

His association with the tata group is over a half century old and yet nowre in the history of tata group is the X's family mentioned by name....his family's relation's with the tata eased only when C, D's

In 1999, X launched "Silent Revolution" – a remarkable marketing strategy which has, in the short span of one year, reaped huge benefits for the company and, more importantly, for its customers

Its underlying philosophy was very simple -- to create a bond and develop a relationship with every customer, to be his partner in business and to be a part of his family. The aim was to establish X as ''brand of first recall'' in the minds of the cusotmers.

The name ''Silent Revolution'' was given to the project because strategy involved talking directly to the end consumer, without making a noise. The Tata name, which stands for trust and leadership, helped in spreading the message that X is their customer's partner in the creation of wealth........... identify x......
